Safety tips
Kitchen fire
Here are 6 easy steps to reduce the risk of a kitchen fire:
Never leave the stove or oven unattended.
Keep all pot handles turned safely inward when on the stove.
Never throw water on a grease fire. Starve the flame of oxygen by sliding a tight-fitting lid over the pot or pan. Then turn off the burner.
Smother the flames in an oven fire - regular or microwave - by closing the door, then switch off the heat.
Don't store cooking oils or flammable liquids over the stove. Don't use that space for items you use frequently either, as you'll increase the risk of clothes igniting and other accidents.
Keep the stove-hood filters and vents clear of grease and food particles.
