Summer conservation tips
Loading...

summer_conservationBy now, we all know that water is a precious resource and that energy is too valuable to waste. You want to save every drop and every watt you can. So here are a few tips that will get you on your way to a more sustainable summer.

Water conservation

Save water in summer by:

  • Limiting usage – your lawn only needs a 2-3 cm layer of water once per week
  • Minimizing water use with low-angle or pulsating sprinklers
  • Regularly checking your sprinkler system for leaks
  • Using an automatic shut-off nozzle for your hose
  • Planting native and adaptive plants that use less water and resist local plant pests and diseases
  • Using a bucket and sponge to wash your car, instead of a running hose and save up to 300 litres of water
  • Covering your pool when not in use to prevent evaporation

Energy conservation

Cool off the air conditioner usage by:

  • Using a bedroom on a lower floor, where it is cooler in summer
  • Installing light-blocking curtains to prevent your furniture from absorbing and releasing ambient heat
  • Using ceiling fans that use less energy and make the air feel 3 – 5 degrees cooler

A little can go a long way. Every drop and every watt counts. You’ll find that by doing the little things, you’ll end up saving a lot.
