Moving away to school is a big step. You have helped your child prepare in every way. But now that they are gone, do they have enough insurance coverage?

If you have one of our homeowner’s policies and your child is a permanent resident of your home, you can rest easy knowing your child is covered for the following, up to a limit of $5,000:

• Personal property: Whether they are just entering the first year of post-secondary studies in Canada or the last year of post-grad in Rome, they’ll be covered regardless of their age or their place of study.*
  
  
• Liability: They’re also protected by personal actions and premises liability coverage. So, if someone in the library trips on your child’s book bag, your child is protected from the potential claim or any other similar type of claim.

Travel and health

Your home policy does not cover travel or health insurance for your child while they’re away, which they may need if they are leaving the province or country. The Co‑operators offers this coverage separately.
