Identity Theft coverage

All home insurance plans from The Co-operators — home, condo and tenants — include identity theft coverage at no extra cost.

Identity theft is the illegal use of personal information. It involves stealing the identity of another person usually for the purpose of financial gain or other criminal activity.

With this coverage, if you're the victim of identity theft:

  • We reimburse you up to $10,000 for expenses associated with someone stealing and using your personal information for fraudulent transactions.
  • You pay no deductible and it will not impact your claims free discount.
  • Insured costs include legal fees, the cost of notarizing affidavits or sending certified mail, and earnings lost due to time away from work.

Tips to protect yourself from identity theft:

  • Limit the number of credit cards you carry.
  • Report unfamiliar charges on statements.
  • Never leave receipts at bank machines.
  • Shield the keypad when entering your PIN.
  • Remove mail from your mailbox promptly.
  • Destroy pre-approved credit applications.

Automatic coverage for new purchases

Most insurable items you purchase will be covered automatically at no extra charge until your next renewal date. Just let us know. This includes a seasonal residence, jewellery, artwork and more.

Blanket Limit coverage

In the event of a partial or total loss to your home, you're covered. This coverage enables you to replace your building, contents, outbuildings and pay for any additional living expenses under one blanket limit of $1 million. Depending on the value of your home, you may qualify for a higher blanket limit.

Extended Water Coverage*

Water-related losses are the most common type of home insurance claim. Water losses resulting from municipal sewer backups are on the rise. And, as Canada's sewer infrastructure ages, this trend will continue.

Protect yourself against water damage losses by adding Extended Water Coverage to your Standard, Broad, or Comprehensive home policy, seasonal residence and/or revenue property policy.

You can choose the coverage level, limit, basis of settlement, and deductible that best suits your needs.

Extended Water Coverage includes Level 1 Level 2
